Before I got seriously into perfume my biggest obsession was nail polish. I used to follow several nail blogs (some good ones are Sminkan & Emma, Scrangie and Wacky Laki, by all means, go check them out!) and I remember when I found out about Pantone my head nearly exploded. There are color nerds???? How did that company even come about? I’m picturing two nerds from the 60:ies, one of them very agitated, going: ”No, for the last time, beetroot and fushia ARE NOT THE SAME F***ING COLORS!!! Ok, now I’m gonna lock myself up in my room and map out every single color so we NEVER HAVE TO HAVE THIS CONVERSATION AGAIN”.
I’ve no idea how it really happened but I do know I go soft every time I see someone that’s serious about something and Pantone do take their colors seriously. Also, twice every year they compile a trend forecast and the trendy colors for spring 2013 are the ones on the picture above. Now, I love colors. They have so many associations; feelings, things, places, times, anything really – just like scents. So I’m going to do a little meditative exercise over the next few days. I’m going to pick a color from the 2013 forecast, print it out on a card so I can carry it with me all the time. Then I’m going to look at that card whenever I have some peace and quiet and just let myself feel the color. I’m also going to place a card like that on my perfume sample stash, so I take a look at it and try to pick a matching scent. Just to see what happens, what thoughts will emerge, how will it make me feel, etc etc. If it’s fun I might pick another color after that, maybe I’ll even get through the whole palette, we’ll see.
If anyone would be interested in doing this with me, you’re so welcome!!! Tell me and I’ll link to your posts. And it doesn’t have to be from the palette above, Pantone has a community site (myPantone) where members have uploaded thousands and thousands of palettes. Just pick whatever calls out to you and I’ll love to hear about it
